In Pain From a Wisdom Tooth? Call Us Today

Wisdom tooth pain has a habit of arriving at the worst possible moment. A dull ache turns into a throb, the gum swells, and suddenly you cannot chew, sleep, or think about much else.

If that is where you are right now, call Sana Dental at (780) 476-3391. Our North Edmonton clinic holds time aside for urgent cases and we will do our best to see you the same day during clinic hours. We open at 7:30 am most weekdays, stay open until 7:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and run alternating Saturdays.

New patients are welcome and no referral is needed.

What are Wisdom Teeth?

Located in the very back of the mouth, wisdom teeth are the last and final set of molars to appear, usually between the ages of 17-30, although some people never get a set. For many people, wisdom teeth grow properly and no problems arise. For many others, however, problems occur and intervention is necessary to avoid more complications later on. Left untreated, problem wisdom teeth can eventually lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and occlusion problems, all of which can cause extreme pain and discomfort.

Why Might Wisdom Teeth be Removed?

  • Inadequate Space: Often, there is simply not enough room in the mouth to accommodate wisdom teeth properly, so they cannot grow correctly and become fully functional. This can cause severe pain, cavities, crowding of teeth, and gum infections.
  • Impacted Wisdom Teeth: If wisdom teeth grow diagonally or horizontally because of inadequate space, they can become impacted, or completely stuck in a potentially harmful or undesirable position. Impacted wisdom teeth should always be treated in a timely fashion, or it could result in:
    • Damage to nearby teeth
    • Disease
    • Infection
    • Tooth Crowding
  • Partial Eruption: If wisdom teeth erupt only partially in the mouth, a potential risk of infection could arise between the overhanging gum tissue and the tooth itself.

Emergency Wisdom Tooth Removal Edmonton FAQs

Can I Get Emergency Wisdom Tooth Removal in Edmonton on the Same Day?

We keep room in the schedule for urgent cases and will do our best to see you the same day during clinic hours. Calling early gives us the most options. If your case turns out to need an oral surgeon, we can still assess you, manage the pain or infection, and arrange the referral.

How Do I Know if Wisdom Tooth Pain Is an Emergency?

Pain that stops you eating or sleeping, does not respond to painkillers, or comes with swelling or a bad taste should be looked at promptly. Swelling that spreads across the face, affects breathing or swallowing, or comes with a fever is a medical emergency and needs an emergency room or a call to Health Link at 811, not a dental appointment.

Does Wisdom Tooth Removal Hurt?

The area is fully frozen before anything starts, so you should feel pressure rather than pain during the procedure. Afterwards, expect some soreness and swelling for a few days once the freezing wears off, which is usually well managed with acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Oral sedation and NuCalm are available if you are anxious about the appointment.

How Much Does Emergency Wisdom Tooth Removal Cost in Edmonton?

Cost depends on how many teeth are involved, whether the extraction is simple or surgical, and whether sedation is used. We give you the cost before we proceed, so there are no surprises afterwards. Sana Dental offers direct insurance billing, and our team can review your coverage with you first.

Will the Canadian Dental Care Plan Cover My Extraction?

Extractions are among the services the CDCP can help cover for approved patients, though you may still be responsible for a portion of the cost depending on your income. Sana Dental accepts CDCP coverage. Note that approval can take up to three months, so the CDCP is not a route to funding treatment you need this week.

How Long Does Recovery Take?

Most people feel noticeably better after three or four days, with swelling peaking around day two. Soft foods, rest, and following the aftercare instructions closely all help. Avoid smoking and drinking through a straw during the first few days, since both can dislodge the healing clot and cause a painful dry socket.

What Happens if My Case Needs an Oral Surgeon?

We will tell you straight away rather than starting something that is better handled elsewhere. You will get an assessment, an X-ray, help with the immediate pain or infection, and a referral to an oral surgeon in North Edmonton.

Do I Need to Be an Existing Patient?

No. Sana Dental welcomes new patients and no referral is required to book. If you are in pain and you are not currently with a dentist, call us and we will help.
